Basketball again. This weekend marked the start of my favorite time of the year: the NBA Playoffs. I'm one of the rare Canadians who doesn't really care about hockey but I LOVE basketball and this is the best time of the year for bball. The millionaire egos finally kick it into gear and play some competetive ball. There were several great performances in the first games of this years playoffs. The best being a 55point game by Allen Iverson. I hate Allen Iverson but there is no way I can scoff at a game like that. He's a great player. Dirk Nowitski also put on an offensive show with 46 points. He also had great hair. One of the most impressive stats in my eyes is Paul Pierce's 21-21 at the free throw line. NBA players aren't always the best free throw shooters but that's an amazing night. As far as team performances go, the weekend props go to: Phoenix, Orlando and of course L.A. Phoenix and Orlando are both 8 seeds and face huge historical opposition. Only two 8 teams in the hostory of the league have upset so to see them win their respective game ones was impressive and refreshing. This wouldn't be finished without mentioning the best team in the league, the Lakers. They come into these playoffs as a 5 seed but are still the biggest threat in the west. They took it to the Wolves in the first game 117-98. They will win this series easily in 4 or 5 games. Unfortunately the Wolves star power is nothing compared to the dynamic duo of Kobe and Shaq. I predict championship #4.....
