Encounter starts up again this week and I'm really looking forward to it. I thought the feel last semester was awesome. It's purpose was to bring some deeper teaching and some more focused worship to the Lakeview scene. In my eyes and in my life it did that...although some people still want it to be meatier. I think that it's not about the material that is delivered it's about what you do with it. The Bible is the Bible....the goal is to get it out there. If a speaker delivers a truth from the Word it can work on people in different ways. If someone isn't a theological intellectual they don't need an in depth look..they simply need to hear the message and let it sink in. For those that want something more intensive they maybe need to look at how they process the lessons. Maybe the oweness is on them to read a commentary or supporting literature so that they can get to the nitty gritty of each passage. I guess what I'm saying is that for a community to be reached I believe the speaker needs to deliver messages that land somewhere in the middle and those who need to dumb it down can and those who want it to be more need to dig deeper themselves. Make sense?...

Some good points gesture. I often get a lot out of bible studies and that sort of stuff. But my real intensive bible learning comes from reading commentaries and other writings from biblical scholars and the like. And come to think of it, that probably enhances what I get out of sermons, bible studies, discussion groups, etc.
