Story Time

This Sunday I have the privilege of speaking to the people of Lakeview Church out at Pike Lake. A lot of people are still under the impression that Nevada and I teach English in Taiwan but that hasn't been the story for a while. It'll be nice to be able to share about the ministry I'm involved in at the Pearl. I'm on a good personal journey of discovering what the "adult" me is like and how I want to be personally and professionally. Outside of the stressful moments I feel so happy working at a church and trying to enhance peoples' worship experience. The church is a place where I can see myself for a long time. It has become apparent to me though that there doesn't seem to be a lot of respect for church workers. People treat it like a play time job. One thing that a friend Corwin and I were discussing is that some people don't feel church workers/missionaries should be paid like everyone else. There seems to be this assumption that we should live off of less. That argument is for another post but I'll let you think over how you feel about that. Corwin told me what one lady said to him and it put it all in perspective, "If my pastor can't drive the same kind of car as me then I'm the one with the money problem." That was a rant that just came out. Wasn't planning on talking about that. If you're in the Saskatoon area this Sunday come out to Pike Lake, enjoy the beach and BBQ and come see me speak.

The other speaking arrangement I have is back at my church in Taipei. I'm doing a DVD sermon that is scheduled to be shown on Sunday July 22nd. This is the first time I've tried to record a talk. I've done little video skits but never a sermon. I'm thinking of sitting on a lawn chair in the middle of the prairie field just sharing a story or two. We'll see...wish me luck. And pray that all the tech stuff works properly.

The elders who direct the affairs of the church well are worthy of double honor, especially those whose work is preaching and teaching. For the Scripture says, "Do not muzzle the ox while it is treading out the grain," and "The worker deserves his wages." ~1 Tim 5:17-18
